Canadian government welcomes youth newcomers from all across the world with open hands. Hence, there are great programs running around for youth newcomers in the country to help them find better jobs, livelihood & more. This blog shed some light on top programs for youth newcomers in Canada:

Qualifying As A Youth

Generally, the age span for qualifying as a youth for government-sponsored employment programs in Ontario is between ages 15 and 29. Programs are open to both students and non-students. In a few circumstances, the minimum age for eligibility is 18, and the maximum age maybe 30.

Employment Services For Youth

All Employment Services contracted with Employment Ontario, provide precise employment programs for youth. However, only a few employment services have specific programs for foreigner newcomer youth or even newcomer youth in common.

Newcomer centre in the peel region help with employment service that currently offers job programs for newcomer youth. This is a skills training program for those aged between 16- 29 in customer service and common labor jobs. It also involves job placement and employment retention support.

Youth Job Connection programs, offered by the largest employment services, are funded by Employment Ontario. These are titled as “employment champion for youth”, but the programs are not tailored especially for newcomer youth. Rather, they are intended for all young people who meet multiple or severe barriers to their employment.

The Centre for Education & Training offers a program named “EmpowerHer” for young women (ages 15-30) to shift part of their community through volunteerism while assisting them to develop skills that will allow them to become an ambassador of transformation in their community. It involves free training in project management, employability, entrepreneurship, leadership, grants, and life skills, as well as support in the co-creation of service projects reacting to recognized community needs. 

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority offers a Newcomer Youth Green Economy Project, which promotes newcomer post-secondary students in the GTA (ages 18-29) to obtain field trips, experiential learning opportunities, and job skills training.

Students have access to training opportunities in various environmental career opportunities pathways, including ecological restoration, green energy/green building, water management and environmental education. The newcomers must be currently hired in an undergraduate college or university program in the GTA and their main focus of study must be in the environmental sector.
